P002 → On Purple

The art space of 'On Purple' comprises a striking combination of steel pipe installations and two sculptures featuring trees emerging from chairs. Late one night, I stumbled upon these discarded chairs at a garbage dump, and at that moment, they seemed to beckon me like living entities. The branches, too, were salvaged from the roadside. Upon finding them, I couldn't help but feel a pang of regret, as such a splendid tree lay abandoned by the wayside. I envisioned granting them a new lease on life. The Battersea Fireworks Festival, with its vibrant displays of fireworks and engulfing flames, provided a wellspring of inspiration. Witnessing the festival evoked a sense of both the fireworks' helplessness and the all-consuming nature of flames upon their surroundings. To me, the fireworks also seemed to embody the passage of time. Through the creation of a purple utopia, I aimed to explore the concept of "exploration and balanced hedonism." Purple, a colour rich in multifaceted meanings, encompasses politics, identity, LGBTQ issues, eroticism, retro-futurism, and the occult. As I constructed this purple utopia, I found myself embarking on a personal journey of self-discovery. Consequently, I sought to reshape various media forms and infuse them with diverse emotions. In doing so, I hoped to not only explore myself but also provoke the audience into contemplating their pursuit of "exploration and balanced hedonism."
